Ukraine's Ambassador to the US Resigns

Zelenskyy Appoints New Ambassador

Oksana Markarova Appointed as New Envoy

On 25 February 2021, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the resignation of Valeriy Chaly from his post as Ambassador to the United States. Chaly had served in the role since 2019.

In a statement, Zelenskyy thanked Chaly for his "significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian-American relations" and wished him success in his future endeavors.

Zelenskyy also announced the appointment of Oksana Markarova as the new Ambassador to the United States. Markarova is currently the Minister of Finance of Ukraine.

Markarova holds a Master's degree in International Relations from the Kyiv Institute of International Relations and a Master's degree in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School.

She has previously served as Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration and as Ukraine's representative to the International Monetary Fund.
